These are the facts, but they only tell part of the Taylor Wessing story. What differentiates us from other law firms is our forward-thinking approach. We consistently look to find new and better ways to add value with innovative solutions for our clients. By keeping close to our clients we can be more proactive and spot better ways to help them achieve their ambitions.
Our focus is on what we believe are the industries of tomorrow: Energy; Life Sciences; Private Wealth; and, Technology, Media and Telecoms.
In each of these sectors, the breadth of expertise has clear benefits for our clients – they can come to us with whatever issue they’re facing. And it also makes life extremely rewarding for our trainees.
As a medium-sized commercial law firm, Taylor Wessing sports an 'open door' and supportive environment in which our trainees are given responsibility – as much as they can handle. Added to that, our trainees work with clients who are among the best at what they do and colleagues who can say the same - it all adds up to a unique start to their legal career. Trainee development is also high on our agenda. We look to employ top quality trainees across the Firm and are committed to developing our solicitors throughout their career.
We encourage our trainees to take an active part in the life of the Firm e.g. participating in our firm-wide sporting events and pro-bono activities and even run their own social committee.
Once you join Taylor Wessing, you'll spend your two-year training contract in four different practice groups, regardless of your degree. We'll sit down with you soon after you join to discuss which seats you'd like to take and we'll work with you to make sure this fits with the needs of the business – flexibility is key and all experience counts at this stage.
Because of the importance of corporate work right across the firm, we require one of your four seats to be a Corporate or Finance seat. Contentious experience is also a requirement, but can be gained in our Commercial Disputes, Employment and Pensions, Trade Marks, Copyright and Media, Patents, Restructuring and Corporate Recovery or Construction practice groups. Your remaining two seats are elected by you based on your personal preferences and future career path.
Alongside your day-to-day work, we run an accredited Professional Skills Course (PSC). This covers areas including advocacy, financial and business skills, client care and professional standards. Core areas are supplemented by our own technical training and lectures, as and when needed.
Our long-term success as a firm depends on the long-term career satisfaction of our people. So we make sure training doesn't end with your training contract. There's always something to learn in law, no matter how senior you become.
Our Skills Training Programme will have a big part to play in your development once you've qualified. It will equip you with the skills you need as your career progresses, such as client relationships, technical skills and team management. You'll probably identify skill areas you want to develop that are outside the Skills Training Programme; our Learning and Development team will be on hand to help you find the programme that's right for you.
