Vacation Schemes

If you want a glimpse of what it's like to work at a full-service firm, our summer placements will give you a front-row seat on our work, plus an idea of the people who work here.

You'll spend a week each in two different practice groups sitting alongside a partner or associate – we'll do our best to make sure they're areas you've expressed a particular interest in. As well as gaining hands-on work experience, you'll learn about the firm as a whole. There will also be social and sporting events where you can get to know current trainees and other placement students.

By the end of the two weeks you'll have a better idea of whether we're right for you and vice versa. We'll also give you feedback throughout to tell you how you're doing – and if we see that you have the potential star quality, you may be awarded a training contract at the end of your scheme.

Competition's high for these places – we only take 40 students each year – so you'll need to convince us you are serious about a career in law.

LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM

2 weeks.

TIMING OF SCHEME

June and July 2014.

NUMBER OF PLACEMENTS

Circa 40.

HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY

You can apply for one of these two-week placements if you're in the penultimate year of your law degree or the final year of your non-law degree.

Visit our website to submit your online application form at www.taylorwessing.com/graduate by 31 January 2014.

Training Contract

Once you join Taylor Wessing, you'll spend your training contract in four different practice groups, regardless of your degree. We'll discuss which seats you'd like to take and we'll work with you to make sure this fits with the needs of the business – flexibility is key and all experience counts at this stage.

Alongside your day-to-day work, we run an accredited in house Professional Skills Course (PSC). This covers areas including advocacy, financial and business skills, client care and professional standards. Core areas are supplemented by our own technical training and lectures, as and when needed.

LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM

2 years.

SEATS

Because of the importance of corporate work right across the firm, we require one of your four seats to be a Corporate or Finance seat. Contentious experience is also a requirement, but can be gained in our Commercial Disputes, Employment and Pensions, Trade Marks, Copyright and Media, Patents, Restructuring and Corporate Recovery or Construction practice groups. Your remaining two seats are elected by you based on your personal preferences and future career path.

DEFERRALS OR DIFFERENT INTAKES

We only have one intake a year – every September. And when it comes to deferred entry, we look at each case on an individual basis, so talk to our Graduate Recruitment team if you're thinking about deferring. We'll want to know what you hope to gain out of a deferred entry and how this fits in to your overall career plan.

NUMBER OF TRAINEES EMPLOYED

Circa 22 per year.

HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY

If you are in the penultimate year of your law degree and beyond:

  • October - July – submit your application form for training contracts.
  • August and September – if selected, you'll be invited to attend an assessment centre and interview. If you're successful at interview, you could be made an offer for a training contract in two years' time.

If you are in the final year of a non-law degree and beyond:

  • October - July – submit your application form for training contracts.
  • August and September – if selected, you'll be invited to attend an assessment centre and interview. If you're successful at interview, you could be made an offer for a training contract in two years' time.

Visit our website to submit your online application form at www.taylorwessing.com/graduate by 31 July 2013.

Recruitment Process

NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS

Initially, you'll need to complete our online application form. If we like what we see on paper, you may be invited to attend one of our assessment centres. We've designed our assessment centres with you in mind – a short half-day event. This is the final stage of the process.

On the day, you'll be asked to participate in a group case study and an interview. We will be looking for your ability to work in a team, present to a panel and debate a casing point as part of the group exercise. In your interview, you'll be questioned on your academic record, work experiences and interests and responsibilities. The interview will also feature a short commercial awareness scenario at the beginning. Throughout the recruitment process, we look for a whole host of attributes, skills and behaviours.

LOCATION

We run all our assessment events at our London office.

WITH WHOM

As part of the group exercise, you'll be assessed by one of our Senior Associates and your interview will take place with one of our Partners and a member of our Human Resources team.
